LONELY

By Sheila Mumbo

I’d walk a million miles to escape loneliness,
Looking up at the vast emptiness of the universe,
I feel all alone, even if stars light up the sky,

In the dark of the night, I want to escape this reality,
But she creeps in and I grow cold as an arctic wind,
In this chasmal void, you have left,

I can feel my soul is slowly slipping away,
And somehow I think you broke me,
Though you never really meant to,

I’ve had nightmares of what we could be,
The possibilities hurt like a thorn on a fresh wound,
But what hurts the most is seeing you walk away.
