BEREFT HEARTS

By Josephat Msagha

They say,all good things must end
My heart aches for love
The love I cherished and adored
An oasis filled with compassion and affection
I thought death was the only end
Lie our love was just a mirage
You never believed

Memories of you stuck in my mind
I still remember
How your smile sparked my soul
How your laughter rekindled my zeal
How tender your lips felt when we kissed
How warm your touches felt when we fondled
Fading by the years and life’s constant toll

We had a love so pure
I bequeathed to you a heart so pure
hearts and hearts facing light
I thought it was forever
Was there no pledge?
I’ll stand by you for always, you said
I’ll stand by you infinitely, you said

You told me it was forever was there no pledge?
So was my love just a figment of imagination
I really believed it was forever was there no promise?
Why is love so ephemeral?
The anguish burns as I clasp my hands And shed tears,it hurts me more than you could ever know
may you find happiness.
