I’M NOT HER

By Sheila Mumbo

She’s taken every part of you from me,
Kept you warm by her side at night,
When I’m left freezing in loneliness,
Letting sadness warmly blanket me,

She’s taken every part of you from me,
Left me with pieces of you I can’t fix,
Didn’t think you’d let her in our space,
I thought I meant more to you,

She’s taken every part of you from me,
You let her dance naked to our songs,
On the bed you used to keep me warm,
Is she everything I could never be?

She’s taken every part of you from me,
She painted every wall we ever touched,
Left a footprint in every path we ever walked,
I know I’ll never be her because I’m not her.
