PAIN

By Sheila Mumbo

I’m trying to supress the tears,
In a space full of faces with eyes,
Faking a smile that cries for help,
Maybe they won’t see behind my smile,

Even the wind slaps the pain to my face,
So painfully that my heart bleeds out,
Making me feel like I deserve all of it,
Where do I turn my red swollen eyes to?

No one teaches you how to keep it together,
Till you’re on the verge of breaking,
I’m trying to control my pricking emotions,
And calm my nerves in a world full of people,

Its heart breaking trying to hold myself together,
Weighing between cowardice and bravery,
Wondering how I got there or how to leave,
When all I wanted was love, happiness and smiles.
