Do You Know

Do you know that you are still on my mind?
Like a lyric to a song,
You are not forgotten.
I often try to find the rhythm,
But it leads me right back here.
Here, where I stare at my empty arms that long for an embrace
Here, where your absence is like a disease.

Do you know that I had a million reasons why I loved you?
And every second that passed, my love for you grew deeper.
So when the storm came,
I convinced my heart that we were strong,
That nothing could sink this ship,
But the storm never broke,
And I felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere,
And in the desert, I was all alone.

Do you know that my heart broke when you left?
They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder,
But probably because they never met me.
The distance wrecked my soul over and over again,
But I guess it is because I had tattoed your name on my heart,
And now, the butterflies I had, flew away,
And I embraced your absence.

Do you know that I still smile when I hear your name?
I thought I would have moved on by now,
But everytime I am on a date,
I picture it with you.
I thought I would have fallen in love by now,
But my heart is still heavy so I choose to not even try.
I was scared of losing you,
But now I am scared of loving you.
With you, this teenage heart is reckless,
As though broken hearts can’t heal.

Do you know that my wishes never saw the light of day?
I wish that you had stood with me in the rain,
Covered me with your coat,
And sang along to my broken tunes.
I wish that you had walked into the storm with me,
Held my hand tight,
And unveiled your courage,
Then maybe my fear would have found a companion.
But I guess all I do have is your silence,
And a heart that still beats for you.
