Her Confusion

She almost fell in love,
Or maybe, she already did.
There was no knowing with her really.
She was sure, that nothing,
Could change her mind about love,
But one look at the man seated right in front of her,
And you could see the confusion twirling in her head.

He may have been just another man to the world,
But looking at him,
She saw a future,
Their future,
And that scared her shitless.

He didn’t look anything like her fantasies, no,
And he wasn’t even close to her ideal man,
But he was himself,
The outlier that caught her attention,
In a trained series,
Of never not love,
And screw love.
Did that even make sense?
Maybe not,
But this time,
She was screwed,
And she knew,
There was no coming back,
From this.
So composing herself,
She pretended,
Like the tension between them,
Wasn’t so obvious,
Even to the people around them,
Like they were not warming up to each other,
In ways they both considered unethical.
But what were ethics,
When the heart was involved?
She had lost,
And she knew it.
