Not Enough

It was not enough that we had spent many waking moments together
That we had shared our pains, our heartaches
All the moments of respite shared seemed like an illusion
Did we really watch the dawn break?
Did we really laugh with tear-soaked eyes as our hearts exhaled?

It was easy to open up to you
To dig deep and bear it all
Now I feel silly
You cannot meet my eye any more
We do not speak so freely any more

I am at a loss
Was our togetherness all in my head?
All this time
All those missed chances
You should have said something
I should have said something

Your deception cuts deep
It has taken something from me
Once I confronted you with the truth
You chose to flee
You chose silence.
