Happy faces plastered on the living room wall.
Must be nice because I can’t relate at all.
Y’all actually went to the studio and did that?
Good luck to us to even make it through a dinner.
When I was in highschool in the dormitory,
Listening to stories of “My dad and I we….”
Realizing that I’ve actually been missing out.
Yes there was teenage pressures of boys and sex,
But the real one being “Why’s my family so different?”
Then being an adult and finding out that,
‘If he wanted to, he would” for you,
Is really just about your daddy issues.
Whew! Let me take a minute.
I know you want staycations at the beach,
But did you know daddy-daughter dates are a thing?
Some of us are out here just making memories we don’t retain,
Maybe we’re trying to overwrite some childhood what-ifs.
Navigating this jungle of a world,
Looking for love and acceptance or even a warm hug.
From these random men and even the sponsors,
When your dad should’ve had your back from the get-go.
Yeah, you can always create that family you want.
Be the better version of your folks.
Fight your inner dysfunction every single day,
Just so your house can be a home.
Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t,
All in all, that’s a fight you’ll have till you’re gone.
So this is for my sisters with the classic daddy issues.
Whichever way that weak man didn’t show up for you.
To those who don’t know what protection feels like.
Daddy-daughter dance remains a movie scene.
For those times men caught us lacking,
With our fragile hearts on our sleeves.
Before we learnt to always have our guard up.
The worst pressure ever from within being,
“I hope my kid never knows this feeling.”
Ending the cycle and righting some generational wrongs.
Trying not to picki picki ponki,
The biggest decision of my baby’s life, damn.
So here’s to mourning the life we actually deserved.
But it is what is,
((just take a shot)).
Anyway, good luck, god-speed, all that good god stuff,
Just hang in there you’re gonna make it sis.
