Shadows Of Yesterday

Shadows, storms,
My breath hitches; a caged bird,
Everything shrinks,
To the bout of pain,
Curses, then silence again.

My body is accustomed,
To the jumbled mess of pain,
Creaks from the doors make me flinch,
Heart palpitations, as dread takes a toll.

His eyes, cold and emotionless,
Deep in the night,
Pleas unheard,
A wilting flower, spiritless,
As I watched my innocence fade away.

Shadows, shadows, and shadows,
Pent-up anguish,
No hope;
Just endless oblivion,
A cracked whisper,
Just enough to be heard by me.
