All I Needed Was You

The comfort of your hugs, I longed for,
Lying beside you, happy, safe and secure.
A routine in homes, so common and true,
Yet mine was a world devoid of you.

Daily, I’d return from school,
With no sight of you, no familiar face.
Silence became my partner, the walls my friend,
A lonely story that seemed to have no end.

All I needed was you, but you were far gone,
A distance farther than love could ever go,
Forgetting the child you once held tight,
While lost in the shadow of work’s blinding light.

Your gifts, though kind, could never replace you,
The warmth of your love, or your tender embrace.
Each day I missed you, each night I cried,
And still to this day, I long for the tears I’ve tried to hide.

Am I worthy of love, dear Mum, I wonder?
Hours pass by, my thoughts torn apart.
No sign of hope, no answer from you,
It feels like your love is no longer true, or it never was.
