We’d Fight Back

In that state, we were goners,
Unsure of what would come next,
Unsure of the pain we’d face next,
It was like living in a storm,
Only this time, it was heavy,
It was the storm we had to wither,
The one that gave us tough choices,
We could either give up, or fight back.

There was so much at stake,
There was a lot we needed to do,
And none of us had even a hint,
We all stared at the storm,
Contemplating the choices we had,
Thinking of the repercussions,
But maybe the consequences of it all,
Wouldn’t be as bad as we first thought.

So, we stood there and created a wall,
One that had seven strong pillars,
A wall we had been forced to build,
One that would protect us from the storm,
The wall that would take all the hits,
But at least there were seven of us,
We each could hold on for each other,
Because we didn’t know how to give up.

When the storm came seven days later,
We had gotten weary and were fatigued,
The lack of sleep had taken away our will,
We had stayed strong for nothing,
Because we believed we would win,
And that was also why we stayed together,
The seven pillars, binding us,
Holding us together, saving us from the storm.

No one said it would hurt so bad,
No one told us it would be hell,
No one said the storms that came later,
Would be worse than the previous,
But then after the series of storms,
After the hits we’d taken for weeks,
After all that numbing in the storm,
We got used to it all, and were prepared.

It wasn’t something to be proud of,
It wasn’t something to make known,
Because there was a lot of chaos around,
But we had fought back in the pain,
We had tried to live though the storm,
And though the seven of us may have wilted,
We still were the seven strong pillars,
And together, we would always fight.
