RAVENS ARE NO BUTTERFLIES

The day is grim
My shoulder aching terribly
Breaking down over the weight of the shovel
Whose edges have gone blunt from
Digging out the earth
To create an eternal home for souls
Dragged into the breast of darkness
A pit of utter silence
A pit of loneliness

The ravens peering atop tree branches
Letting out occasional screeching sounds
Sounds that evoke awe
Sounds that send a ripple of horror
Across the vast field of corpses
With a stench so bad
It would melt one’s face
In an instant

The gloom enshrouds
Approaching from the shadows
Before long, all who
Saunter the earth are
Held by the throat on a steepen cliff
The legs dangling freely in the air
Awaiting a plunge of no return

A ray of light will break through the dark clouds aloft
The flame will shrivel and be gone
It’s just a matter of the clock
Buckle up
Lock out the plague
Stay home Stay safe!
