

Today morning, we interviewed Dennis Okang’a (Mr. 700) the president of Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) and Fatma the finance secretary Technical University of Mombasa Students Association on the outbreak of Covid-19.
According to their understanding about the pandemic. They said that covid-19 is a disease caused by a new strain of corona virus. “CO” standing for corona, VI for virus and D for disease. President Okang’a also briefed us that formerly this disease was referred to as 2019 novel corona virus.
From reports and news in the country and other countries across the world, the virus has caused many deaths of youths mostly students. The duos have therefore called upon all students of Technical University of Mombasa and other Universities to join hands in helping the government in fighting this worlds pandemic. They’ve also also asked the students to adhere to the governments directives and precaution measures against the virus.
In his speech on ZOOM Meeting App, Okang’a has urged students to wash their hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds. They should not touch their faces.
The virus is real and we’ve seen how Italy and other countries abroad are suffering. To curb this, I urge all youths in the country especially students to stay safe at home. They should wash their hands frequently, avoid crowded places, observe the curfew, use recommended masks,avoid public gatherings and always listen to the government.
Okang’as Message to students.
On the other hand, Fatma has urged students not to stigmatize their peers or tease anyone about being sick. She has also reminded students that the virus doesn’t follow geographical boundaries, ethnicities,age, ability or gender. Therefore, everyone is at risk and should take the precautions seriously.
Okang’a also talked about the possibility of Finalist to go back to various campuses amid completion of their studies as CAS, Mercy Mwangangi had tweeted.Mwangangi’s tweet on Finalists possiblity to go back to campus . Finalists are likely to report to their universities next month or August since they’re not many in numbers and therefore the university premises can accommodate them in their institutions.
