Don’t love me for my hair, the times do change,
And the braiding may not please you no more.
Don’t love me for my hazel eyes, they know how to play.
With appropriate display of emotions, nobody’s hurt.
Don’t love me for my ears, so many lies I’ve heard,
Solemn truths have become a rarity, reality strung.
Don’t love me for my smile, I’m just being polite.
It’s a perfect tight-lip, experience taught me so.
Don’t love me for my neck, so many kisses received,
Marks by masters, the price of slavery, let me live.
Don’t love me for my tits, they’ve trapped too many,
For the price of dignity, a living has been earned.
Don’t love me for my sex, if you expect innocence,
The eyes have always lied, I sold it for pennies.
Don’t love me for my body, you’d be surprised,
The age range that has explored and judged it.
Don’t show me you care, eventually you’ll leave.
They who cared, all left without glancing back.
I scared, scarred and pushed them all away,
For they pitied my brokenness and I broke them.
Just don’t love me, for I come with baggage.
The kind that causes trouble and revolution.
That has stomped on beautiful hearts.
That has heard the loudest break of hearts.
I don’t deserve any love, your love.
You are too pure for me, too good to be true.
The dream I have always, only to wake up alone.
You are, whose thoughts drive my monsters away.
My supposed subconscious obsession, you are.
I don’t know what it means to be the one.
I have been a lot of the one but none,
Had an instruction manual attached to it.
So please don’t blame me when I look at you confused,
When I can’t understand the love in your eyes,
And I get into a survival stance. Do pardon me,
When your breath, smell and your touch,
Unconsciously taps into my past. Do pardon me.
When your kiss baffles me whilst your passion,
Awakens betrayal, anger along with a wild emotional rage.
When you say I’m the one for you and I’m tempted to ruin it.
Just don’t overwhelm, drain and drown me in emotions,
Because useless is an experience I don’t want to relive.
I can only pray the universe listens this once,
For I am just a rose, trying to survive a pitcher plant,
Trying to convince my thorns we could start over.
Attempting to tell the world that my beauty is not eternal.
Do pardon my inefficiency, I’m just scared to feel.
