HELLO WORLD

They keep saying that there’s a pandemic,
That the world is becoming intolerable,
That they are forced to stay indoors,
Yet some of them can’t even do that.
The say that there’s a virus on the loose,
That all it’s takes is just a breathe in,
The government warns to take care,
But they don’t even sanitize, shame.

My name is Steve, and I’m in the streets,
I’m not hustling, I’m not rustling,
I don’t know who my parents are,
Don’t know if I have a last name,
Don’t know if Steve’s my name,
Don’t know if I got siblings,
Don’t know if I have a home,
Don’t know shit about shit.

Heard there’s a virus in town,
Yet I’m in town deep in the bins.
Heard we should wash hands,
Can’t even get food let alone water,
So how will I do that when I’m just me?
Heard we should stay at home,
Never had a roof on my head,
Unless under the bridge counts.

The rich are complying,
Staying indoors like the government said,
Which means no more food,
The bins are empty yet full of tissues,
The poor are out and about,
Finding ways to make ends meet,
Living below a dollar ain’t shit,
When I don’t have even a penny.

The world is busy stocking up,
Regulated yet common market visits,
Women and men alike are shopping,
The scare of a complete lock down,
But what’s the problem with them,
It’s not like we are dead from starvation,
For them it’s a first, and they are scared,
Wish they could ask us the experience first.

The world is not ending per se,
The society is being equalised,
The huge cars that broke Albert’s legs,
And drove off like nothing happened,
Are about to gather dust in the garages,
The people who curse us for begging,
Are about to be at the same level with us,
I’m not bitter, just an amused hungry kid.

I know I’ll probably die of the virus,
Coz I don’t have no masks like they say,
I don’t have a reason to wash my hands,
When my source of food is filled with used tissues,
I don’t even have a reason to hope,
Because I’m not poor, I’m beyond poor.
So I’ll sit and wait, while we are equalised,
And hunger becomes my newest mantra,
Let’s laugh at the situation, shall we,
But hello world, did you stock up enough food??
