SONGS OF SUMMER

The night sky bathed in stars,
The cool ocean breeze streaming frenziedly
Into the room I stand,
My eyes scouring the seashore
Stretched with sparkling white sand,
In search for a gem I once possessed,
A gem I lost reaching for embers,

The waves gush back and forth,
Erasing the hearts we curved
On the coastal stones,
Do you remember?

The bed we once shared has gone cold,
The tablecloth we put our dinner worn out and old,
The carpet we stood and walked tattered and soiled,

Do you remember the day we dived
To the depth of the sea,
Sharing a kiss as we descended below,
The warm current flowing smoothly,
It seemed like time had slowed down for just the two of us,
The moment went on forever,
It was beautiful, wasn’t it?

I still smell the fragrance of your perfume,
I still hear the songs of summer emanating in the night,
I still hear the thudding of your footsteps
As you trotted away with another man.
