LOST

BY Drooplines

“Who are you still dreaming of,
While the girl of your dreams is already woke?
Wake up!”
This was her usual teaser
And I’d struggle out of bed, just to ease her
I remember,
Thoughts of us still glow in my mind like an ember
Ours was a love that knew no bounds.
She was a lover of hounds
And with the same drive,
She was one happy soul to be alive.

We laughed,
We loved
She’d cry like a baby
She was my baby
And her smile sprang,
From frequent cuddles
And gentle nuzzles.
She was my queen
She donned like one
I adored her.

Not always did we say ‘cheese!’
Hard times were inevitable.
Mistrust, the misunderstanding was part of us.
Our pasts would stir up conflicts;
Either of us would walk away.
If she did, I’d chase her
Whatever the case, I wanted her close
Only I, knew the way to her heart
But that hardly solved our qualms.

I wanted to make everything right.
Unlike my other lovers, I didn’t want to fight her.
Nonetheless, her insecurities grew
I defensively withdrew
I loved her but,
We had rushed in before I healed
She had promised to hold my crashed heart
But now she was trampling it on her heels.
Aggression
Depression
These two took their toll on us.
The strain
The pain
Pushed me to fight her off
But she still came back,
Back in my long, sinewy arms.
Toxic.

I thought so too,
Until dread woke me up one night
In the wee small hours, at two
Only to breathe in our always heated body
Only to feel her upper body sprawled across my chest.
Breathless she lay
Her illness, asthma, had taken hers away.
The moon’s light reflected on her beauty
It managed to kiss her goodbye
What about me?
I had lost her within hours.
I was nervous
The rest of the nights would be restless,
Without the girl of my dreams in it.
Gone without a word.

Thoughts sped like flash across my mind.
Feeble and weak,
She looked helpless.
I lost my love to death
Shouldn’t it have been a relief that she was not in another man’s arm?
Ah! Guilt can mess up one’s mind
But one regret that crept silently;
I wasn’t able to bring heaven down to her earth.
She never will, the taste of heaven.
Her soul was lost,
Lost to flames.
My life lost,
Lost in blames.
