FOR MAMA

By Jr Pieces

When you held your breath so dearly, how was I suppose to hold my own,
The idea of your cradle coming to an end, the death bed that took everything away,
I was and still is scared of this world you have to leave me in all alone.

But like every seed that has to fall, Bury, and grow back into a tree,
Every wind that aimlessly blows through the hands of Mills, turning it and giving it source.
I will one day take the frog’s leap of faith to make a name not just for myself but for the both of us.

I have seen sacrifices that never made sense you had to make to see me grow up,
Scars people had to leave on you for me to understand they were lessons for me to take up,
Times when we felt like breadcrumbs, small and meaningless, just for you to remind us we can coat thighs and taste fantastic.

I have learnt from you mama, and I know one day this earth you’ll leave me behind,
I no longer wanna do anything without making your life and mine a legacy for all to hear,
For the greatest gift to a mother is to see their little child grow up to be of substance even when they started from scraps in the lower suburbs.

If anything, seeing you in that death bed has taught me love even when things get tough,
Pray, remind God how grateful you are for the time he has let you have,
Smile, for these bodies might not hold us forever but we are glad they’ll carry memories of those who’ll leave us.

Mama, its been 3 years since you left us and I still miss you,
I hope you’re sitting with God and he pats your back for the man I am now,
I didn’t stop at anything just like you had to sacrifice to see me win.

I am glad I am doing this for you, because of you and through you.
I am not yet done,
I wanna do more, just for you, just like you taught me, just like it should be.
