BEHIND BARS

By Josephat Msagha

The atmosphere dark colored

Stars twinkling ushering dusk

Through the cell window gazed,

The moon glowing  in the sky

On the floor thinking about my life

Just a wrong decision that turned fatal

Was caught at the wrong place and time

The system sucks and doesn’t play fair

Feeling tears dripping down my cheeks

Like waking up from a dream to a nightmare

Up and about in my thoughts

Awaiting dawn to hear my verdict

Where I’m from they’ll take your life

You either get killed or face the system

Prayed to the lord for a better day

Felt like he was skipping me up

Walked in court in cuffs

Seeing my mum, her eyes tearing

My heart bleeds, eyes soaked up

Praying the judge sets me free

In the chamber feeling a rush of fear

Worried. The judge offered  me freedom

Promised him I’m gonna be the greatest

A dreamer like Luther, eager to change the world
