We crave for a drop of water,
A grain of rice, decent food
A hug from our mothers.
Yet all we see, day after day is despair
As the earth opens up its mouth to receive more bodies,
More blood, more tears.
As men cry like little babies
As women shriek in pain
As children die, for something they don’t understand.
Children are exhausted
Mothers have no more tears to shed
Fathers keep burying their families
Religion failed
Leadership failed
Education failed
And its not getting any better.
They’re’re cleansing. Cleansing what?
Were fighting over land. Who’s land?
We’re marking our territory? who’s territory?
Nobody is winning,
For we’re all walking out of this dead on the inside.
We could use a friend,
but our friends are either wounded,
some missing, most dead.
All we do is hang on to broken versions of us, dreading tomorrow.
We’ve not seen so much destruction, death, pain,
frustration, anger and affliction before.
What we’re going through is pain without a purpose.
All we have is countless wounds, none close to healing.
A brokenness that feels impossible even for the creator to mend.
Someday, maybe, we will have a future.
Maybe those who start and fund wars will experience the same.
Maybe justice, true justice will rule
Maybe we will sleep in warm beds,
embrace our mothers and kiss our fathers.
For now, we long for death over life
If life means waiting for death to come knocking, anytime.
“And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth,
and it grieved him at his heart.
