The Faithful Wife

She left her job,
She left her Mum and Dad,
She left her comfort,
Her friends,
Her fancy clothes,her education,
Alone, she ran to him,
To start a new chapter in life.

He vowed to love her only,
To cherish her, in sickness and strength,
He promised heaven on earth,
To provide for her,
To bring her flowers every day,
To carry her,
To make her laugh.

When the wedding door shut,
Everything changed,
She no longer recognized him,
The anger when he looked at her,
The calm sweet tone changed to shouts, It started with a slap,
Then came bangs on the walls,
She forgave.

Her heart aches night and day,
He took away her smile,
All her teeth lost by blows,
Deep cuts vivid on her back,
She missed to be hugged again,
Why did you leave me heaven?

She can feel her father’s anguish,
His veins popping from his bald head as he watches,
As her bloody body being covered in bandages by nurses,
She can still hear her mother’s cries,
What will people say?
She is scared of losing her title wife
So scared to be brought to shame,
She bears the pain,
Till death do us part
She says.
