SADDEST JOY.. SULTANA

Endings. Happy or sad, they are certain and definite,
Every story must have an ultimate ending but then,
Happy or not is decided for by fate and circumstances.
Sometimes we see people who are happy and good together,
People who have us wishing and jealous of them, but maybe,
Just maybe, it’s just a show, one whose ending is uncertain.
Their relationship probably being one regarded as picture perfect,
So the mind seems to make a conclusion, just to fit the picture seen.
A story, probably a legend, of they who existed before us,
They whose lives, became one of our favorite bedside stories,
A story of two people, very beautiful people as Abuela says,
They who met in an encounter, metal clashing with metal,
Feisty lass against proud lad, princess against a hot rebel,
Both fighting the survivors battle, and the raged equality,
Trapped in kingdoms, fights for power, emotions and conspiracies,
Would mark the beginning of the saddest joy. Mortals’ lives.
And as it goes, they found an unplanned association,
The yearly governance battle as by the king’s letters.
Not being one to keep time, he still made an appearance,
Just a few minutes before the closing of the contest,
And he was good, that she had known and was sure,
It would be him. Without disappointments, he won,
But disappeared before claiming his rightful title.
Unaccepted relations generated and love, was redefined.
Theirs was more than just sheer attraction. It was love.
A love so strong, that had the universe bending to their will,
That had the world shaking with conflicted decisions,
True romance, one determined and tightly wound.
One that saw them make the toughest of sacrifices,
That had them in the worst pain, not the Romeo Juliet kind,
The bittersweet exploration of desires, in an uncivilized world,
The true show of circumstantial love escapades, the sultana.

As Abuela says, their relationship was full of mishaps,
There were hurdles, the worst for any couple,
And the strangled choices they had to make,
Those between family and love, only one would live on,
But this later on proved difficult in their world,
A world that was shadowed by hatred, deception, great lust for power,
Just when their love blossomed, they were assassinated.
If dying together, counts as a happy ending,
Then theirs was one of a kind, one that would freak the afterlife.
