Cupid And His Bows

Some wounds are inflicted before you arrive
Before you take a lungful of Earth’s breath
I found out later, much, much later
That romantic love is a wound
Worn by those who came before me

I had my own ideas of love
Some from observation, some from my heart
Yet if there was something,
I could not carelessly dream about,
it was romantic love
It was always a sore topic
A tender chapter to those who came before me

My curiosity can be morbid
I began to dig into the past
Through memory, worn photographs,
And prodding
All the paths I took led me here
Love hurts, it betrays, it abandons

I am a hopeless romantic
I have bargained with the powers that be,
The universe to be exact
Give me something
Give me someone
Give me a beautiful love story

Prayers are great when they are answered
Wishes are great when they are granted
Silence is great when it is warranted
Despite the quiet, I still hope
Despite the stillness; I still believe.
