Silent Wars

I wonder how long it will take
Before my heart breaks,
For I have hidden my soul beneath a smile.
Painted a portrait of this beautiful facade,
And hid my pain behind my strength
So everytime you look in my eyes,
You see a heart anchored on a solid ground,
But I wish you would look deeper.

I wonder how long it will take
Before my tears flow,
You call me beautiful,
You call me strong,
You find a reason to rely on my strength,
And I have placed my ears
At the palms of your hands.
I am never too far away,
Neither am I out of sight,
But never once have you given me your attention.

I wonder how long it will take
Before my voice breaks the silence,
You call me your best friend
Sing praises of our friendship,
Yet my screams drown in the desert,
And at night,
I lie awake screaming at the pillows,
For I feel so alone,
My weakness is your strength,
But I am worried that it will be my greatest tragedy,

I wonder how long it will take
Before I fall to the ground
For even in despair, I am still standing,
Some wars have left bruises that I can’t explain
Wounds that I thought time would heal,
Stories to tell until the night sky turns blue,
But in this friendship,
I am the strong one, so I hold my peace.
