THE PERFECT POISON

By Sheila Mumbo

Your eyes scream
The perfect poison

No,
I’m not talking about the color of your eyes
I’m talking about the way you look at me
Like you want to devour me wholly.
The way your eyes scan my entire body
As if searching for more better flaws
The way your words strangle my ears,
In ways I can’t find the zeal to escape,
As they keep ringing in my head loud
The way your mouth carves in to let out a word
Cutting my soul and sticking a dagger to my heart

You are,
You are the daydreams and all the hallucinations
Just let me mend your broken parts.
