WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE

For a heck long time I’ve lived in angst
Coiling like a millipede when faced with adversity
Pulling myself into a shell akin to a turtle when edgy
Shifting colors like a chameleon to blend in when twitchy
I was always meant to be distinctive
Whatever happened,  I can’t tell?

When I glance at the mirror
I face a stranger
A stranger with dark rings encircling the eyes
Hair in disarray and with lice
Dressed in wornout and tattered cloths
Whatever happened,  I can’t  place?

The years have rolled by unnoticed
Taking a toll,  immeasurable
From  one misery onto the next
Whatever happened to life cutting me some slack?
