The Lingering Thoughts of Home

Fear’s embrace, a lonely night,
Searching for warmth,
and a distant light,
Thinking of home,
The memories I left behind.

A child alone; dreams displaced,
In this strange place,
My childhood erased,
Joy and laughter evades.
How did I find this fate?

Echoes of strange voices,
Seeing different faces,
Children, from different places,
All bundled as one;
They said it was best for us.

Some of our parents were locked up,
Some had left without a word,
Some, devoured by drugs.
Some just gave up,
Only to be left at the mercy of this shelter.
